Get amazing photos with a Rubber Lens Hood (and maybe The Swiss Mountains).

I came across this video on Vimeo. It caught my eye because of the great colour and amazing scenery.  As I watched it the scenery got better, but the editing took a dive as did some of the shots.

The first thing I noticed was the reflection from the windows. If your planning to shoot through a window  I recommend a rubber lens hood. It lets you hold the camera against window and block out any unwanted reflections. If you don’t have or can’t get a rubber lens hood then try putting a black jacket over the camera and against the window. Basically you want to try and cut out anything that will make a reflection.

Also, the  music was terrible… What more can I say about that.

Editing  was likely dictated by the availability of good shots, but I think at the start where the the editor tries to flick back and forth between shots in time with the music just didn’t work. It was too long and felt confusing because a lot of the shots just looked like mirrors of the other shots.

Many of the shots themselves were really great in regards to framing and the colours were amazing. They were well positioned and showed the majesty of the Swiss countryside. The use of a tripod/monopod would have helped up the production value though. Sometimes the bright sky totally killed the exposure of the mountain. To insure everything is well exposed a polarizing filter or graduating ND filter should have been used.

This really is a nice little video that with a bit more love could be pretty awe inspiring.
